My Second Thought - Are we Eco-conscious?

Latest buzz word is Green materials, materials which don't pollute environment or at least which are bio-degradable. Whenever I hear such things or read some article on environment protection, I would decide immediately that from now on, I shall try to minimize wastage and as far as possible avoid using hazardous materials.
But the next day itself, i don't switch off my CRT monitor when not in use or even forget simpler things like turning off the heater after taking bathe. And almost everyday do my part in damaging environment by using polythene bags.
Also, I am immediately reminded of the power wasted by me just by simply keeping the computer, tubelights and fans on throughout the day during my college days in Garnet hostel of NIT Trichy.I am also reminded of the paradox of we, the so called design engineers always boasting of designing gadgets consuming negligible power.
Is it that we are so much pre-occupied with our daily routine that we can't perform such simple things in a proper manner or that we are not aware of the collective damage caused by such negligence?
It is in this context that i believe a website or forum where everyone can pool in their thoughts on actions that may be prevented for the sake of environment.
They should be simple and realistic like
Why dont retail outlets use paper bags?
How to remember always that we should use a mug of water for brushing rather than turning on the water tap (which might save one mug of water a day!).
These may look idiotic or too simple. One may feel that do they really matter? But if these simple things are followed by everyone in this world, that would make a huge difference.
And the most important one,
I should change before recommending these to anyone else!

My First Idea - Electronic Dictionary

I have never read an English novel until i came to pursue my B.Tech in NIT Trichy. My first novel is Journey to the center of the earth which has recently been made into a film. That was a good starting point because English words used in it are simple, not sophisticated.
But when i started reading books like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and even Indian novels like Sea of Poppies, Enchantress of Florence, I could not understand 25% of the words used. If i start looking for meaning of each word in the dictionary (which actually used to take most of the time spent in reading), I used to loose interest in the novel.
So everytime I start reading a novel, I used to feel the need for a hand held electronic dictionary where I can just type in the word rather than looking in the hard bound dictionary. Coming to its commercial viability, as this electronic gadget requires hardly a few Megabytes of memory and simplest of processing capability, the final product may turn out to be much cheaper than standard Oxford dictionary. If required, we can include an USB port so that we can update the wordlist present in it at any point of time using desktop or laptop.

My First Blog

I am sure that everyone sometime or other would have struck upon an idea which might be the most idiotic or simplistic or innovative or even stupid. We feel like saying Eureka!. But in most cases, it would have been forgotten almost immediately or within few days. I experienced this very recently.
At that instant, I was really excited. I felt like as though my idea would have changed everything in this world. Alas, in a span of five minutes, i could not even recollect what the idea was or even a hint of it. So at that moment, I have decided to make a record of any new idea (however stupid it may look) immediately in my mobile.
So this entire blog is like a record of all my ideas!
